Current employer:

Garland & Rdoriguez

Garner, Iowa

Description of what you do:

I work in a small town so the best way to describe what kind of law I practice is "whatever walks in the door." However, that is not necessarily true because there are some areas of the law which I don't practice. Most of my work involves family law, juvenile law, real estate work, probate law, and general litigation.

Your favorite part of your job:

I enjoy getting to know my clients and being able to help them with their legal issues. I also enjoy the fact that I learn something new every day. You may be surprised to know that practicing as a small town lawyer can be very challenging.

Your interests outside of work:

I enjoy spending time with my family. I also enjoy being outside and reading.

What is your favorite movie:

The Breakfast Club

What advice do you have for success in summer positions:

Get as much procedural experience as you can. If you have the opportunity to write motions or tag along to court hearings, you should jump at those chances even if you have to do it on "your own time."
