Flora Bai ( Class of 2015)

Hometown: Changchun, China

Undergraduate school and major: The University of Hong Kong, Economics and Finance

Your favorite Iowa Law memory:

The chitchat parties we had with friends from my class after final exams of each semester, when we talked about law school, vacation plans, future career, our life, our dreams...

Current employer:

Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP

Beijing, China

Job title:

Previous positions:

Associate at Troutman Sanders LLP

Description of what you do:

Capital market, mainly IPOs as the issuers' counsel or the underwriters' counsel

Your favorite part of your job:

That I get the chance to work with the most talented and dedicated lawyers, and to learn from them.

Your interests outside of work:

Travel and watch movies

What is your favorite movie:

Hard to say as there are too many...

What do you wish your 1L/2L/3L self knew about the job search:

That there is no need to be nervous and you'd eventually get what you want, as long as you keep trying.

What advice do you have for success in summer positions:

Pay attention to the details of your assignments as your seniors/supervisors understand you are still a law student and most of the time they do not have extremely high expectations on the quality of your work product. However, this does not mean careless mistakes (such as typos or forgetting to change certain names on a template) are tolerable, as they reflect your attitude toward the assignments.
