Get to know…Amy Lewandowski, 2L

Amy Lewandowski, 2L
St. Louis, Missouri

Amy Lewandowski first became interested in the legal field after taking a hospitality law class during her undergraduate education at the University of Missouri – Columbia.

“I appreciated that what I was learning could actually be applied to the food service job I had at the time, which was not an experience I had in some of my other undergraduate classes,” Lewandowski says. “’I really liked the idea of knowing my rights, and, if you’re a lawyer, you get the opportunity to help people, which is something I’ve always enjoyed.”

Now a student at the University of Iowa College of Law, Lewandowski is a member of the Organization for Women Law Students and Staff (OWLSS). She spent her 1L summer working with Evans & Dixon L.L.C. in St. Louis, Missouri. Though she focused primarily on worker’s compensation defense, she said she also had the opportunity to experience work in other departments such as civil or subrogation. This coming summer she'll be working with Michael Best in Milwaukee, Wisconsin doing commercial litigation.

Though she hasn’t yet decided on an area of interest, Lewandowski says she loves the business field, and is interested in exploring a career in corporate litigation or defense.

And she credits the faculty, staff and her fellow students at Iowa Law for pushing her to be her best, and encouraging her along the way.

“My favorite part about Iowa Law is the community of both professors and students. I know almost everyone, and it’s great to be in a place where you can talk with any other person in your class,” Lewandowski says. “Everyone is nice and willing to offer notes if you miss a class, or support you if you ask a basic question in class. The professors truly have an open-door policy and are always willing to go the extra mile to make sure you understand the material.”
