What did you come to law school to become:

I wanted to be a judge. I was not sure what area I wanted to practice in but I always knew the end goal was to become a judge.

Your favorite Iowa Law memory:

Traveling to Arcachon, France with Professor Wing. It was my first time traveling out of the country. I was there for two weeks and it was really nice to learn about the legal system in France.

Current employer:

Social Security Administration Office of Hearings Operations

Location:

Orland Park, IL

Job title:

Supervisory Attorney

Description of what you do:

I manage a team of 15 employees which include attorneys and legal assistants. I set the performance goals for each employee and assist them with meeting their goals. I also draft disability decisions for the Administrative Law Judges in our office.

Your favorite part of your job:

I get to serve the public. Each disability decision that is written impacts the lives of our claimants.

Your interests outside of work:

I love to travel. Our most recent trip was to Paris, France and London, England in May 2018. I also spend time preparing students for the bar exam through Minority Legal Education Resources, Inc. Bar Process Management Program. In addition, I like to attend plays and concerts.

What is your favorite movie:

ATL

What do you wish your 1L/2L/3L self knew about the job search:

There is always a need for someone with our skillset - critical thinking and strong writing skills. Look for jobs that you are interested in but do not limit yourself. There are so many jobs between the public, private and government sectors. You will find where you fit in and are the most effective.
