Natalie Halverson (Virden) ( Class of 2014)

Hometown: Waukee, Iowa

Undergraduate school and major: University of Iowa - Political Science

What did you come to law school to become:

When I started law school I had no idea what kind of lawyer I wanted to be. I just knew that being a lawyer sounded interesting. Luckily, through summer positions and classes at Iowa Law, I was able to identify that employment law was my passion and I hav

Your favorite Iowa Law memory:

I met my husband at Iowa Law, so that definitely tops the list!

Current employer:

Aiken Schenk

Phoenix, AZ

Job title:

Associate Attorney

Description of what you do:

Every day is different. I do a lot of legal research, drafting pleadings, and meetings and telephone calls with clients. I also spend a lot of time meeting with my bosses to bounce ideas off of each other.

Your favorite part of your job:

I get to help people every day. The best feeling in the world is getting a good resolution for a deserving client.

Your interests outside of work:

Hiking, traveling, spending time with family.

What do you wish your 1L/2L/3L self knew about the job search:

Success looks different for everyone. You don't have to do things the "typical" way to find your job or your passion. I sought out my summer positions on my own and since then I have used my network to find new positions. It won't be the end of the world if you don't get a job through OCI, I promise! Also, network! In a lot of legal markets, it is more about who you know than what you know. Seek out Iowa Law grads in the market you'd like to be in and ask them to lunch or coffee!
