Jim Sawtelle (91JD) recently began his new leadership role with the Iowa Law School Foundation (ILSF), beginning July 1, 2025.
The Iowa Law School Foundation (ILSF) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of education at the University of Iowa College of Law. Governed by a Board of Directors, made up of alumni, faculty, and students of the College of Law, the board meets at the Boyd Law Building twice annually. The board focuses on alumni relations, fundraising, endowment management, and program support.
During its June 21 meeting, the board elected Sawtelle, a partner at Venable LLP, vice president. Sawtelle has served on the ILSF Board of Directors for nearly a decade, including as a member of the executive committee.
“I am so excited to continue serving the students at the University of Iowa College of Law, alongside my fellow board members, as we endeavor to provide them with a strong legal education,” Sawtelle said of his new role. “It is a privilege to be a part of a leadership team made up of such accomplished and esteemed individuals.”
Sawtelle is the partner-in-charge of Venable’s Denver office and a seasoned trial attorney with more than 30 years of experience in commercial litigation and intellectual property law. His clients range from individuals to Fortune 500 companies.
