Professor Samantha Barbas, who holds the Aliber Family Chair in Law, was recently featured in a Miami Herald article addressing growing fears of media censorship in the United States.
A national expert on First Amendment law and press freedom, Barbas expressed concern over the rise of “indirect censorship” as a government tactic for curtailing freedom of expression in American media. Barbas noted that while previous administrations have occasionally clashed with the press, recent tactics represent a more deliberate effort to silence free speech, as illustrated by the recent suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
Barbas also appeared on CNN en Espanol to discuss the Kimmel suspension and the state of free speech in America.
