Shannon Roesler, the Charlotte and Frederick Hubbell Professor of Environmental and Natural Resources Law and faculty director of the Hubbell Environmental Law Initiative (HELI), recently received the Clyde O. Martz Teaching Award from the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law.

Trustees for the Foundation established the award in 1993 to honor its eighth president. The award recognizes teachers and scholars who have performed meritorious teaching of natural resources and energy law, honoring them for teaching excellence, fostering a broad understanding of the law, mentoring students, and innovative style.

Roesler teaches a large swath of the environmental and energy law courses at the University of Iowa College of Law, including valuable experiential learning opportunities and immersive field courses. In her role as Faculty Director of HELI, she has also expanded opportunities for students to pursue environmental law scholarship and professional development. This work, in combination with her mentorship beyond the classroom and influential scholarship, have all contributed to her recognition.

“I am profoundly honored to receive the Clyde O. Martz Teaching Award,” Roesler said. “This recognition means a great deal to me, particularly because it places me in the company of colleagues in this field whom I so deeply respect and admire.”
