Jill Wieber Lens, the Dorothy M. Willie Professor in Excellence at the University of Iowa College of Law, wrote an article that was accepted for publication by the Texas A&M Law Review. The article, "Men & Wrongful Death for Abortion," examines claims that emphasize male harm from abortion in lawsuits against doctors prescribing abortion medication and argues that they are inherently weak.
Using social science research on men and pregnancy, as well as men and pregnancy loss, Lens argues that “their disembodied pregnancy experience and the short timeframe of pregnancy before medication abortion mean men are likely to lack evidence of damages.”
Lens is a leading legal expert in reproductive health, with a particular focus on the law and politics of pregnancy loss, and the author of Stillbirth & the Law.
