What is a Law Opportunity Tuition Fellowship?
The Law Opportunity Fellowship (LOF) program was established to provide access for students who have overcome extraordinary challenges to enter law school—for example, disabilities or serious health factors affecting prior academic performance, exceptional work commitments mandated by family and financial circumstances, socio-economic disadvantage, or educational disadvantage, such as the potential impact of being a first-generation college graduate.
In addition, we will consider demonstrated potential to succeed, including:
- Academic or professional abilities not reflected in the GPA
- Extracurricular activities
- Post-baccalaureate success, including graduate study
- Public Service commitments, such as military service
- Law-related employment experience
- Leadership skill development
- Unusual motivation and perseverance to overcome obstacles to study law
- Other relevant information that relates to an applicant’s qualifications or academic potential
Where do I find information on tuition and fees?
Tuition rates are set by the Iowa Board of Regents. Rates are available on our website.
What is the difference between mandatory fees and enrollment-based fees?
Mandatory Fees are required for all students. Enrollment-based (found in the Tuition & Fees section in MyUI) are based on a student’s enrollment in a particular course. Enrollment-based fees are not covered by Merit Tuition or Law Opportunity Fellowships (Enrollment-based fees include elective experiences like Intersession Study Abroad).
