Kara Avis joined the University of Iowa College of Law as the Director of Admissions and Enrollment in April 2026. In her role, she leads recruitment strategy, admissions operations, and enrollment planning for all degree programs.

Before joining Iowa Law, Avis served as Graduate Program Manager at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, her background spans admissions and recruitment, career services, academic advising, and student services. Her previous roles include Assistant Vice President of Enrollment at Iowa Wesleyan University, Director of Career Services at Culver-Stockton College, and Coordinator for Recruitment and Admissions at Southern Illinois University School of Law.

She earned her MA in Human Resource Development from Webster University and her BA in Communication from Culver-Stockton College.
