Iowa Law is proud to welcome an incredible line-up of speakers in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month.

Under the temporary law, taxpayers don’t need to itemize deductions on their tax returns to take advantage of this, which creates tax-favorable donation options not normally available to about 90 percent of tax filers.

English Law and Literature explores the relationships between English law and English literature at the historical, practical, imaginative, and theoretical levels, encouraging students to consider the depiction of law and jurisprudential questions in works of literature.

The Partner for a Day program helps law students connect with practicing attorneys in the field. Eric Fischer (16JD) participated in the Partner for a Day program during his 1L year at Iowa Law. He was hired by his "partner" firm and effective January 1, 2022 he will assume shareholder status at that same firm.

Al Herz feels that Iowa has prepared her for a vast range of career possibilities. “I'm prepared for an international career. But I also feel like if I go out into the world and realize that I miss Iowa, I am also aware of the rural practices. I’m prepared for a big law career, while at the same time I feel like I’m prepared to work at a small practice in Iowa or a public organization.”

Iowa Law launched the alumni awards program to recognize law alumni who have made significant achievements in their careers and in their service to the College of Law. The program features four award categories: Emerging Leader, the Iowa Law Review Alumni Achievement, Alumni Service, and Alumni Achievement. Learn more about this year's award recipients.

The Center for Human Rights and its collegiate home, the College of Law, recently hosted the first in-person foreign delegation to visit the University of Iowa since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Iowa Law has established its human rights program as a standout in a competitive and changing world, and this year Iowa Law continues its A+ rating for Human Rights Law from PreLaw Magazine, a National Jurist Publication.

For alum Karla Olivas, her true desire to work as an immigration advocate sparked in 2018 when the Department of Justice and Homeland Security were required to reverse their family separation policy.

Since 2018, law students who have successfully completed Professor Amy Kretkowski’s fall course in Veterans Benefits Law have had the chance to join Kretkowski in an appellate advocacy independent study program during the spring semester.

On this Veteran’s Day, Iowa Law is proud to share the story of alumna Phyllis Propp Fowle (33JD). Phyllis was accustomed to being a woman of firsts, paving the way for women lawyers to serve their country.

The society recently announced its Spring 2021 Members, with 56 current and recently graduated students making the list. The Pro Bono Society is an honor society that recognizes Iowa Law students who have dedicated their time towards serving others and developing skills and values that are important to a life of public service.

Iowa Law has long been at the forefront of legal writing education. Although the program has evolved over time, current students and alumni alike attest that the emphasis on one-on-one instruction and consistent feedback sets the Iowa Law writing program apart and teaches the art and science of legal writing needed for success in practice.

This fall Iowa Law welcomed the Class of 2024–the most academically qualified class in school history. A group of 161 incoming students bringing with them the highest LSAT and UGPA in school history.

Every year the Equal Justice Foundation (EJF) hosts one of the most popular student-led events at Iowa Law…The Annual Law School Auction. The event raises funds through silent and live auctions to provide stipends for students in public interest internships—from public defender's offices to nonprofit organizations and everywhere in between.

This year the One Community, One Book (OCOB) program celebrates its 20th anniversary. The program is hosted by the UI Center for Human Rights (UICHR), one of the many centers and institutes at Iowa Law. This annual community-wide reading project invites campus and community members to read the same human rights-related text and participate in related activities.

They come from all over the country and teach on subjects from first year classes to niche subjects. Some say they always aspired to become professors, and some came to academia by a more winding route. These are some of the many Iowa Law alumni who now make their mark as professors.

After going virtual in 2020, the University of Iowa College of Law’s long-standing tradition of Supreme Court Day was back in person today at the Boyd Law Building. The seven justices from the Iowa Supreme Court traveled to Iowa City to take part.  

This fall marks one of Iowa Law's largest clerkship classes yet. Follow the path of several alumni judges who began their law careers as judicial clerks and are now serving in county, state, and federal courts across the country.

Seven faculty at the University of Iowa College of Law have been named to endowed positions. "Endowed faculty positions advance the College of Law and its faculty in transformative ways,” said Dean Kevin Washburn.

This fall Iowa Law is proud to welcome four new faculty to the Boyd Law Building. Collectively, their work focuses on some of today’s most pressing issues including environmental law, criminal justice, education policy, and social change.

By the time Scott Selix (JD14) was a 3L at Iowa Law he saw an opportunity to get back into the craft beer industry. He later started his own brewery in Des Moines, IA—Lua Brewing.
