Parents and Partners Day

Parents and Partners Day is a fixture of the fall semester. It provides an opportunity for current students to give the people close to them a glimpse into life in law school. This day provides a mock class, building tours, and a cookout.

Equal Justice Foundation Auction

In 2004, Iowa Law launched the first annual Law School Auction. This important fundraiser has since been renamed the Equal Justice Foundation Auction.  It is held every fall, often on Parents and Partners Day.  In addition to being the law school's biggest student fundraiser, it offers chances for gourmet dinners and activities with faculty and students and other opportunities for faculty and students to spend time outside the classroom.  The evening's winning bidders provide support for law students who work in low-paid or unpaid summer positions in the public sector.

Barrister's Ball

Each spring, the Iowa Student Bar Association hosts a formal event for all law students called the Barrister's Ball. It is typically held at the Iowa Memorial Union and students always enjoy a night off from studying and an opportunity to see their classmates in their finest.

Athletics and Tailgating

The Boyd Law Building is located within walking distance to Kinnick Stadium.  (This stadium is named after Nile Kinnick Iowa's only Heisman Trophy winner; who also happened to be an Iowa Law student.)  Most days, you wouldn't even know that this legendary stadium was down the street, but on games days there is no avoiding it.  To take advantage of our proximity, Iowa Law and our alumni host cookouts before almost all home football games.  Join us for this great opportunity to spend time with alumni, students, and staff.  Cookouts begin two hours prior to kick-off, but get there early as it's not uncommon for us to feed 500 fans.

Graduation is one of our favorite annual celebrations.  In recent years, we've gathered our community in the main lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union to present the new graduates to their family and friends.  Leading up to this event, we present our Senior Awards and Class Gift.  Following graduation, we host a reception back at Boyd Law Building, which provides good opportunities for our newest alumni to get their photos taken with friends and family as well as Jean de Fiennes.

Levitt Lecture Series

The original idea underlying the Levitt Lectures was to provide an annual opportunity for the College of Law to bring to campus truly distinguished speakers from across the United States and around the globe to present major lectures of interest, not only to the legal community, but also to leaders in all walks of life in the state and region.

The Richard S. Levitt Lecture Series is supported by an endowment held by the Iowa Law School Foundation known as the Levitt Family Lectureship Fund. The inaugural Levitt Lecture was held in January 1997.

Iowa Supreme Court Day

This traditional event honors the state's top court and recognizes the college's origins in the court's chambers. It is held every fall and four student advocates who are selected from the previous spring's Moot Court Competitions argue a moot case before the justices. The public is invited to attend the arguments. In the evening, faculty host dinners for the justices and students in their homes.
