Two faculty members at the University of Iowa College of Law have been named to endowed chairs and eight were named to fellowships ahead of the 2026-2027 academic year.
Endowed chairs and professorships are the highest level of distinction bestowed upon faculty members, recognizing their exceptional contributions to legal education and supporting their continued advancement in the field. Fellowships provide extra support to faculty to advance their academic work and teaching mission.
Orville L. and Ermina D. Dykstra Chair in Income Tax Law: Andy Grewal
The Orville L. and Ermina D. Dykstra Chair in Income Tax Law was established in 1996 to support a teacher and scholar in income tax law whose reputation and accomplishments are consonant with the highest academic standard.
Andy Grewal joined the Iowa Law faculty in 2011. Grewal’s scholarly interests relate to tax law, administrative law, statutory interpretation, and constitutional law. He has previously testified in Congress on tax administration issues, and his tax work has been cited by several courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court cited Grewal in a case involving a complex tax shelter. Grewal has been frequently quoted on tax policy issues in the national press.
Charles E. Floete Distinguished Chair in Law: Diane Lourdes Dick
The Charles E. Floete Distinguished Chair in Law was established in 1994 from the estate of Ms. Kathi Floete in memory of her father, Chares E. Floete, who graduated from the College of Law in 1897. The endowed position is to be assigned as the Dean determines.
Diane Lourdes Dick joined the Iowa Law faculty in 2022. Her teaching and scholarship focus on business and tax law, with an emphasis on commercial finance, business bankruptcy and out-of-court restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and business entity taxation. She has been published in law reviews, peer-reviewed journals, practitioner-oriented publications, and prominent commercial law blogs, and has been invited to speak at Harvard Kennedy School, The Brookings Institution, and at professional association meetings, law schools, and graduate tax programs around the country.
Ferguson Carlson Fellowships
Six Iowa Law faculty members recently received Ferguson Carlson Fellowships, which were created in memory of the late Claire Ferguson Carlson, who graduated from Iowa Law in 1950 and was one of only three women in her class. She went on to practice as an attorney, serve as partner, and was also a member of the Iowa Law School Foundation Board of Directors. Funds from the fellowship are to be used to support faculty at the discretion of the Dean.

Wagner-Murphy Fellowships
Two Iowa Law clinicians received fellowships from the Wagner-Murphy Foundation. Gertrude Murphy graduated from the University of Iowa and was a long-time legal secretary dedicated to advancing the practical education of law students. Funds from her fellowship aim to continue that work. Murphy, who died in 1989, leaves a legacy of enhancing experiential learning opportunities for Iowa Law students.
