Patrick B. Bauer
Upon graduating from the University of Chicago Law School in 1975, Professor Bauer worked for a year in Milwaukee as a Clerk for Chief Judge John W. Reynolds of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He then worked for three years in Minneapolis as an Associate at the law firm of Faegre & Benson before joining the Faculty of Law in 1979.
Professor Bauer's current research includes appellate review of findings of fact, mortgage foreclosure deficiency judgments, Iowa's homestead exemption, federal farm bankruptcy legislation in the 1930s, and federalization of debt collection law in the 1990s.
Professor Bauer currently is teaching in Civil Procedure, Iowa Debt Collection Law, and Iowa Real Estate Financing Law and previously has taught Advanced Civil Procedure, Agricultural Law, Bankruptcy, Bankruptcy Rehabilitations, Debtor-Creditor Law, Debt Transactions, Introduction to Law and Legal Reasoning, and Real Estate Transfer & Finance. He has published articles on the historical development and operation of mortgage foreclosure and farm bankruptcy law, and provided legislative testimony in those areas. He also has prepared outlines and course materials for continuing legal education programs on various subjects within his areas of expertise.
Bauer retired from the faculty in 2021.
