Field Placement Programs

Fall 2024 Legal Placement - Enrollment Deadline: July 15

  • During the academic year, the Field Placement Program offers students the opportunity to earn 6-14 credits (experiential) by working in nonprofit organizations, government offices, judicial chambers, and certain corporate counsel offices.  Students must complete at least 14 hours per week of field work during the semester and participate in a field placement seminar course.

  • The law school has pre-arranged field placements with various partners in Iowa; students may also apply for legal internships away from the law school, including a full-time semester in Washington, D.C.  Field placements still soliciting applications are listed on 12Twenty; decisions will be made on a rolling basis.

  • Students must secure and enroll in the Field Placement Program by July 15.  Before submitting applications, make an appointment (https://calendly.com/jttai) and meet with Prof. June Tai to discuss your goals, interests, and proposed class schedule.  Prof. Tai reviews and approves all placements prior to enrollment and enrollment is done by the Registrar (not by the student through MyUI).

Summer Resources for Law Students

Mental Health

  • Law students who have questions about mental health resources or interest in starting therapy services over the summer can start by emailing Social Worker Sam (samantha-ramsey@uiowa.edu). Online scheduling will resume in the fall. Please note that to receive clinical therapy services, students must be in the state of Iowa at the time of the appointment.

Questions (in general)

  • Have a question about law school but aren't sure where to start? You're always welcome to email law-welcome@uiowa.edu, and we'll be happy to answer your question.  If we're unable to answer your question or concern, we will work to connect you with the right person!  The inbox is watched 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. As always, please allow up to 2 business days for a response. (If you need a quicker response than that, please indicate this in your message.)

If you have an announcement to add, remove, or edit, please contact law-welcome@uiowa.edu.
