What is a Merit Tuition Scholarship?

These awards are based on academic achievement. Renewal for the second and third year of merit scholarships requires that the scholarship recipient remain in good academic and professional standing at the College of Law. For complete details for renewal see our website

Who funds our scholarship program?

Iowa Law enjoys a robust scholarship program thanks, in part, to the generosity of our alumni and friends through the Iowa Law School Foundation. During the academic year, we will provide you with more details about the people and funds behind your scholarship. You will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the donors responsible for your scholarship. We will work with you to coordinate that effort during your time at Iowa Law.

Where do I find information on tuition and fees?

Tuition rates are set by the Iowa Board of Regents. Rates are available on our website

What is the difference between mandatory fees and enrollment-based fees?

Mandatory Fees are required for all students. Enrollment-based (found in the Tuition & Fees section in MyUI) are based on a student’s enrollment in a particular course. Enrollment-based fees are not covered by Merit Tuition or Law Opportunity Fellowships (Enrollment-based fees include elective experiences like Intersession Study Abroad).

How do I apply for Federal Student Loans?

We did not consider your eligibility for financial need with this award of a scholarship. To apply for federal student loans, you must complete the appropriate Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you complete the FAFSA and required documents, you will be considered for Federal Direct Student Loans.

Could anything change regarding my financial support?

The financial support described herein is subject to the availability of funds and compliance with applicable law and University policy.

What is a Law Research Assistant position and why do I want one?

A Law Research Assistant (LRA) position is an opportunity for a law student to work an average of 10 hours per week with a member of the law school faculty. Under current University of Iowa practice, LRAs are entitled to the following benefits: resident tuition, a small salary, and subsidized health insurance. LRA positions are available with a variety of faculty members and are a wonderful way for law students to enhance their legal education and add experience to their résumés.
