Biography

Katie Frank Carl is an experienced attorney skilled in Investigations, Jury Trials, Legal Writing, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Higher Education, Employment Law, and Civil Rights Compliance. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Creighton University and her law degree at the University of Iowa College of Law. She currently serves as a Senior Equity Investigator in the University of Iowa’s Office of Institutional Equity. At the College of Law, she teaches the Field Placement course for 2L and 3L students completing externships for academic credit.

Prior to her time at the University, Professor Carl was a Public Defender for the State of Iowa. There she represented indigent clients in criminal cases that ranged from indictable misdemeanors to Class A felonies. She also supervised law students participating in internships and externships in the Public Defender’s Office. She has presented at legal seminars on topics including motion practice and deposition techniques.
