Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Article 9 governs "secured transactions," meaning it outlines the legal framework for when a creditor has a security interest in a debtor's personal property (like equipment, inventory, or vehicles) as collateral for a loan, allowing them to seize and sell the property if the debtor defaults on the debt; essentially, it defines the rules for how a lender can protect themselves by claiming ownership of specific assets if a borrower fails to repay a loan.
