Megan Graham, clinical professor and director of the Technology Law Clinic at the University of Iowa College of Law, was featured on Iowa Public Radio’s River to River to discuss privacy concerns related to the federal Kids Internet and Digital Safety (KIDS) Act.

The KIDS Act is meant to establish digital safeguards for minors, including limiting access to sexual materials, providing parental controls on online platforms, and requiring artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots to disclose they are not human and provide crisis intervention hotline information.

Graham spoke about the digital privacy concerns related to age verification, as well as potential implications for freedom of speech on the internet. She and host Ben Kieffer also spoke about the bill’s place in America’s legal context and tools parents can use to help their children safely navigate online platforms.
