Gideon Day, observed in March, commemorates the landmark Supreme Court case Gideon v. Wainwright, which affirmed that the Sixth Amendment's right to counsel is fundamental to a fair trial. This ruling led to the establishment and expansion of public defender systems nationwide. In recognition of this, Professor Hildebrand, a former public defender with Colorado's Public Defender Office, will deliver a lecture on her experiences in the field.
