Iowa Law welcomed eight new faculty for Fall 2020: three full-time faculty, two Legal Analysis, Writing and Research faculty, a new law library director, and two faculty beginning multi-year visits. We are excited to have this impressive group join us at the Boyd Law Building.

Professors César Rosado Marzán, Derek Muller, and Chris Odinet join us as full-time, tenured faculty. Professor Rosado Marzán comes to Iowa Law from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law; Professor Muller joins us from Pepperdine Law School; and Professor Odinet joins us from University of Oklahoma College of Law.

César Rosado Marzán is internationally known for his award-winning research and scholarship in labor and employment. In addition to being on the faculty at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, he also was Co-director of the Institute for Law of the Workplace. He will be teaching Contracts and International & Comparative Labor & Employment Law.

Derek Muller is a highly regarded election law expert. He teaches in the areas of election law, federal courts, civil procedure, and evidence. With research interests focused on federalism and election law, Muller is quoted frequently in the national press and he is the author of a well-known blog called Excess of Democracy.

Chris Odinet is a well-known expert in consumer finance issues. He will be teaching Property Law, Secured Transactions, and Consumer Finance Law. His research specializes in household finance, with an emphasis on mortgage lending and financial technology. His recent book is: Foreclosed: Mortgage Servicing and the Hidden Architecture of Homeownership in America (Cambridge Univ. Pres).

Professors Andrew Crouse and Mary Ksobiech join our Legal Analysis, Writing and Research faculty.

Andrew Crouse is an Associate Professor of Legal Analysis, Writing and Research. He taught various courses at Hamline University School of Law and then Mitchell Hamline School of Law, including legal writing, advanced torts, and property. He also served as assistant dean of law students and diversity and legal counsel for the university during the combination of Hamline University School of Law and William Mitchell College of Law. 

Mary Ksobiech is a Professor of Legal Analysis, Writing and Research. She is an alumna of the University of Iowa College of Law. In 2006, she joined the faculty of The University of Alabama School of Law where she taught courses in Legal Writing, Litigation Drafting, and Judicial Opinion Drafting and served as the Assistant Dean of Students. She will be teaching in the areas of Legal Writing, Appellate Advocacy, and Academic Support.

Carissa Vogel is our new Law Library Director and a Professor of Instruction. She was Associate Dean for Library Services, Director of the Law Library, and Professor of Legal Research at the Dr. Lillian and Dr. Rebecca Chutick Law Library at the Cardozo School of Law. Prior to her time at Cardozo, she was Assistant Director for Research and Instruction and Lecturer-in-Law at Cornell University Law Library, and Head of Public Services and Lecturer-in-Law at Columbia University’s Arthur W. Diamond Law Library.

Also new to Iowa Law this fall are two visiting faculty who are starting their visits with us.

Larisa Bowman​​​ joins our faculty as a Visiting Associate Professor of Law. Prior to coming to Iowa Law she supervised second- and third-year students at the Stanford Community Law Clinic and the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau in their housing practice areas.

Phoebe Jean-Pierre​​​​​​ joins us as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law. She was hired as part of the newly reinstated Faculty Diversity Fellowship at Iowa Law. She holds a JD and PhD in media, technology, and society (with a focus on health communication) from Northwestern University. She teaches Health Communication, Race and Disparities, and Immigration.
