Benjamin Louviere (23JD) is a recipient of the 2024 "Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award" for his article entitled Time for a Tune-Up in America’s Healthcare Market: Securing the Right to Repair for Medical Devices, published in the Journal of Corporation Law (JCL).

In the oral arguments at Pace University in February, each Iowa Law team member won Best Oralist in preliminary rounds of the oral arguments competition. The student team consists of advocates Spencer Culver (3L), Sophia Gustafson (3L), Samantha Savala (3L).

Students come to Iowa Law with the expectation of earning a top-notch law degree but don't always expect to find their perfect match or best friend. Through classroom interactions as 1Ls to attending the same study groups or working on a grueling case in the Legal Clinic, lasting relationships are formed.

This year, the Hubbell Environmental Law Initiative created and launched the first environmental moot court team in Iowa Law’s history. The three-person Iowa Law team is competing in the Jeffrey G. Miller National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition (NELMCC) February 22-24 at Pace University’s The Elisabeth Haub School of Law.

In 2022, Lex enrolled in the Advanced Standing Program at Iowa Law, drawn not only by the program’s efficiency but also by the positive testimonials from friends who had followed the same path. During his first summer of law school, Lex worked as a Summer Associate at Dechert LLP in New York City, New York, where he will return after graduation. Lex credits his readiness for the real-world legal landscape to the guidance and teachings of his professors at Iowa Law.

Iowa Law celebrates the 2023 human rights scholarship recipients. Professors Ken Cmiel and Burns Weston shared a common passion: building the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights—a unit of the College of Law—into a world-class, cross-disciplinary resource for human rights education, research, and service. Mihailis Diamantis, professor of law and the Ben V. Willie Professor in Excellence, and Rishab Nithyanand, associate professor of computer science receive a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to bring legal education to computer science courses.

Professor Guernsey wanted to give her students a firsthand encounter with the grand jury process. Collaborating with Richard Barker, the First Assistant to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, she proposed and successfully implemented an immersive grand jury simulation at Iowa Law.
